We have been devasted by the loss of our special girl Chena. Truly one-in-a-million dog. Of course she was among the first WWPD titled dogs in the UK, the first Excellent Working Titled Malamute in the UK and 5 x 61-80lb class Champion at Allerton Park Weight Pull, but that's not all she was. She was the cleverest, biggest hearted, hardest working and most fun loving girl we could ever want.
She leaves an enormous hole in our lives and in our hearts.
Love & miss you forever sweet Chen Chen

Chena is our first Black and White Mal (OK - technically she's Seal & White!). She has great bone, a lovely broad head and the darkest of eyes. She came to us at 8 weeks of age, from Walt & Kath Howarth (Hawkam) and is the result of a mating between Cassey, bred by Walt & Kath, and Devon, a beautiful American dog bred by Nancy Russell (Storm Kloud's) and co-owned by John Phillips (Stormwinds) & Andrea Sautbine (Sno Quest). Devon completed his championship in both the U.S. and Canada and also has his WWPD & WWPDX working weight pull titles. He spent some time in the UK with John, winning one CC in the UK and a Green Star and CACIB while showing in Ireland. He has now returned to the US leaving behind a very special part of his family - his kids!

Chena is a superb working dog and enjoys all aspects of working. She is following in her Mum's footsteps and enjoys working in harness. During her first season she successfully competed in a number of rallies running alongside Kai. She spent some seasons running well in scooter classes with John and also ran well with half Brother Chuck (owned by Marina and Paddy Page) and sometimes with Sika in the two dog class. Now she enjoys longer treks alongside Troy.
In March 2010 Chena completed her AMCA Working Team Dog title by running 4 x 10-11 mile treks with her buddy, Chuck, and then in April 2011 she completed her Working Pack Dog Title.

Her forte, though, is Weight Pull, just like her Dad. At Aviemore 2008 in her very first Weight Pull Competition she pulled 866 lbs, 12.86 times her own body weight, to come 5th overall and 2nd in her class. Since then she has never looked back.
Chena consistently won her class and took the Most Weight X Bodyweight prize in the Allerton Park Weight Pull Championship. In the first 2 years of the Championship, she took home the Trophies for 1st in Class and Most Weight X Bodyweight both times. Th following year she was 2nd in the same class, having missed one pull due to a veterinary emergency with one of the other dogs - just one pull!!
In the 2010-11, 2011-12 and finally again in 2013-14 seasons she retained her 1st in class trophy. She has now retired from competition pulling.
In April 2008 she also gained her AMCA Working Weight Pull Dog certificate, becoming one of the first 4 Malamutes in the UK to do so.
In November 2008 she became the first Malamute in the UK to gain her WWPDX, and in fact any Working Dog Excellent Title!

Chena is a lively girl with a big personality and the heart of a lion. Now that Troy has joined us too, we are enjoying watching their friendship blossom and their working partnership develop.
Chena is a confident and naturally dominant character but she gets on with everyone. Although she is very independent and has an adventurous streak, she also has an endearing laid back attitude. She has the cutest deep woo too!
Chena also amazed us all by gaining her Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award at 9 months, although she is super intelligent so it shouldn't have been a surprise!
Her show career got off to a shaky start but since then she has notched up a number of 1st & 2nd places in Open and Championship Shows, 1 x Reserve Best Bitch and 1 x Best Bitch. She qualified for Crufts 2008, 2009 and 2011 and at Border Union Championship Show in June 2011 she gained her Stud Book Number by winning the Limit Bitch Class. That's qualification for Crufts for life! Chena has also been placed in the AMCUK Malamute of the Year Awards each year, coming 8th Top Bitch in 2010. She is now showing in the Veteran class and doing pretty well with a Best Veteran In Show at the AMCUK Open Show to her credit.

"At 9 years old, this lady was the oldest in the ring, but you would never have guessed it. And I don’t mean that just from her behaviour! As fit as a fiddle, without an ounce of fat, this well-muscled, well turned-out veteran gave the whole class a run for their money, moving with a delightful combination of grace, ease and power. A well-deserved 1st place was topped with her taking the Best Special Working title. "
Mike John, 1st Special Working Certified Bitch & Best Special Working, AMCUK Open, May 2015
**********
